Welcome to TAURANGA Village Radio MUSEUM INCORPORATED SOCIETY

Enjoy your day with Village Radio - tune in to Station 1XT - 1368kh on the AM band to re-live special events and moments, sing along to old favourites and recall memories of a musical past that's seldom heard today.

Village Radio is your nostalgia station and in keeping with our vintage status we broadcast on the AM frequency, which was all that was available in New Zealand before FM was introduced.

We operate from the Tauranga Historic Village and our volunteers welcome requests and chats to let us know you are listening and enjoying the unique programmes each volunteer announcer compiles. We play vinyl records mostly and have the fourth largest collection of nostalgic music in New Zealand which have been donated to Village Radio from Tauranga residents.

We broadcast daily and if you have a special preference check out the 'Programmes' section on the Home Page for the particular genre you prefer. Apart from these, the music goes round and round with nostalgic recordings from the 1920’s to the early 2000’s each day for your pleasure.

RESCUE PILOT TODD DUNHAM & PARAMEDICS DAVE AND DIANE

Studio Guests on Monday 23 March were: Rescue Pilot Todd Dunham Chief Pilot of the Aerocool Developments Rescue Helicopter and Paramedics Dave and Dianne.   Todd was working in Taupo as an engineer, got sick of having greasy hands, and later trained and started flying the smaller Robinson 22 helicopter. He is one of 4 Tauranga pilots who work 12 hour shifts starting at 7 am. They logged 161 flights in three months, to the end of February, a very busy period. Probably one of the worst jobs he was asked to do was bringing back the victims of the volcanic eruption on White Island.     Last Christmas the Rescue Helicopter Trust sent out an appeal to buy three pairs of “state of the art” Night Vision Goggles, to replace their 20 year old set and were amazed when many generous people donated a total of $102,000 Check out the website for further information:-  https://rescue.org.nz/.../spon.../aerocool-developments-ltd/

63rd TAURANGA JAZZ FESTIVAL

It’s the 63rd year since musicians from Overseas, Tauranga, and other Cities gathered to celebrate Easter in its Cafes, Restaurants and Halls.     Marc told our listeners it all gets underway at the Jam Factory at the Historic Village on the 27th, and then the following week, on Good Friday the Historic Village will be transformed into a New Orleans style Jazz Quarter.     Not to be missed will be the 48th National Youth Jazz Competition, with record numbers of combos, bands and soloists from colleges and high schools around New Zealand.      For more information go to https//jazz.org.nz

CHRIS CONNALLY NOT JUST A COMMUNITY CONSTABLE

George Stewart’s Studio Guest on Monday 2nd February was Tauranga Northern Community Constable, Chris Connally.  As well as working closely with Neighbourhood Support Coordinator, Kathy Webb, in following up crime in the north west suburbs, Chris was part of the Urban Search and Rescue Team, helping with the recovery of the 6 victims of the Mount Maunganui land subsidence. He told our listeners that offenders were now much more “savvy” in trying to keep their tracks hidden, which made things more difficult for the Scene of Crime officers, who are first at the homes of people who may have been burgled.   Constable Connally encouraged our listeners to keep a friendly eye on their neighbours, especially if they see unknown people acting suspiciously next door, and to call police as soon as possible.
